In our Aug. 15 blog post, we discussed the arrest of Denver Broncos punter Matt Prater on suspicion of drunk driving and fleeing the scene of an accident in Greenwood Village, Colorado. Fans of the team may recall that Prater is not the only team member facing DUI charges right now. As we discussed in a November 2010 blog post, linebacker D.J. Williams was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving on Nov. 12 after being pulled over in Denver around 2:50 a.m.

On Sept. 1, the Denver County Court judge in Williams' DUI trial said the trial would begin on Jan. 17. Williams was not present at the hearing, which was to decide some motions filed in the case. According to Williams' attorney, he was unable to attend because he was undergoing treatment of an elbow he dislocated during a preseason game. The judge rescheduled the hearing for Nov. 17.

Williams was initially pulled over for not having his headlights on. He was arrested and taken to a detox facility, where he declined to take a blood test. Under Colorado law, driving on public roads is considered to be implied consent to undergo a test for drugs or alcohol. Declining to submit to the test is grounds for suspension of the suspect's driver's license. Williams' license was suspended in March.

The Broncos took away Williams' team captain title and fined him following his arrest. The NFL declined to say if it would take further disciplinary action.

Williams is entering his eighth season with the Broncos. He led the team in tackles in 2010.
