Police investigating the death of two Denver-area teenagers in a single-vehicle accident on Nov. 6 have notified several people that they face criminal charges related to the incident. They must turn themselves in voluntarily or face arrest, police have said. The charges appear to be related to allegedly providing alcohol and marijuana to the teens at a party shortly before the accident.
The DUI accident took place early in the morning of Nov. 6. A Toyota 4Runner with four Lakewood, Colorado teenagers inside was allegedly going 40 miles over the speed limit when the driver lost control in Wheat Ridge and crashed into a tree in a residential neighborhood. The two people in the front seats, 18- and 17-year-old males, were fatally injured. The backseat passengers, both 19-year-old men, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. They were described as critically injured in a Nov. 16 story by KDVR-TV.
The three men and one minor had been at a home where around 15 teenagers had been hanging out, though the homeowner denied that the group had been in a party. He declined to say if he is among those the police accuse of supplying the four with alcohol prior to the accident.
Another person facing criminal charges is a 26-year-old man who admitted buying the 18-year-old driver beer several days before the incident. It is unclear whether the driver had consumed that beer the night of the accident. The man said that the driver was intoxicated on alcohol and marijuana prior to the crash.
