The defense attorney for 37-year-old Denver man succeeded in persuading the court to reduce his bond by $40,000 on Oct. 31. However, it is unclear whether the man, who is accused of using a stun gun on a woman and attempting to commit sexual assault on her, can afford to pay the bond, and he remained in jail as of that same day.

In court, the man's attorney argued that his client needed to be released from jail so he can help work on his defense. The court responded by reducing the previously set bond of $100,000 to $60,000. The defendant's girlfriend was present at the hearing but declined to say afterward whether she or the defendant would be able to raise the money.

According to the Denver Post, the defendant previously served a prison sentence due to a conviction for felony trespass and burglary. He also has allegedly failed to appear in court a number of times in previous cases, which may have factored in the judge's decision. Besides the burglary conviction, he has been arrested several times on various charges but not charged.

The current case against him is related to an attempted sexual assault on July 24. A 27-year-old woman was walking alone on South Broadway around 1:30 a.m. when a man who police claim was the defendant came up on her from behind and fired a stun gun. The defendant allegedly took the woman to a nearby alley and prepared to sexually assault her.

The woman managed to fight off her attacker and escape. A similar incident occurred a few days later but authorities have yet to charge the defendant in that case.
